RightShift Pulse | ED 2
In this edition we share a report revealing insights from founder data we've collected, a startup checklist from Jason Calacanis, a study from Wharton on the effectiveness of accelerators, and more!
Welcome back to RightShift Pulse!
As you may have read in our last newsletter, RightShift is a new product studio that partners with early-stage VCs and Accelerators to help their founders fast track success.
RightShift was born from Intuitio Labs which has a successful 6 year track record helping early-stage startups thrive. When we noticed a gap in the market, we took the opportunity to explore the causes and potential solutions.
In this effort, we did what we always advise entrepreneurs to do: talk to your target market.
We surveyed 20+ early stage founders across various industries to gain valuable insights into the obstacles they face and the support they require.
The results were both insightful and surprising but moreover, the data validated our problem hypothesis. We are excited to share this data today as it offers a comprehensive look at what is working and what can be improved within the current startup, VC, and Accelerator ecosystem.

📝 10 Point Startup Checklist - Pitchclub.io / Jason Calacanis
This startup checklist was curated by Pitch Club based on insights from Jason Calacanis, the legendary angel investor behind Uber, Robinhood, Calm, and a constellation of other brilliant startup companies.
🔑 This isn't just another listicle—it's a strategic roadmap crafted by one of Silicon Valley's most successful kingmakers. This 10-point checklist is more than advice; it's a blueprint used by some of today's most valuable companies.
📝 Do Accelerators Improve Startup Success Rates? - Wharton Journal
🔑 As the startup ecosystem becomes increasingly competitive, there has been significant skepticism about the impact of accelerator programs. Do they truly deliver enough value to justify the equity extracted?
Wharton professors Valentina Assenova and Raphael (Raffi) Amit explored this exact question in a new study that sheds light on the performance of accelerators and the impact they have on the success of new ventures.
This report about “accelerated startups” is fascinating because there doesn’t seem to be a yes or no conclusion, instead the data points to these programs being a very good fit for some but not for others. If you’re running an accelerator or considering joining one, this is a great report to check out.
▶️ Marc Andreessen explains what VCs look for - Stanford University
🔑 This video of world renowned investor Marc Andreessen challenges conventional wisdom in venture capital with a profound insight: it's a game of extreme outliers. Now, that might not sound counterintuitive, but in the span of less than 2 minutes he proves that it is.
Andreessen's landmark principle? Invest in strength, not lack of weakness.
Most VCs check boxes for overall solidity, but this rarely identifies outliers. For founders, this means focusing not on being well-rounded, but on showcasing that one extraordinary quality. In a world where 0.375% of startups generate nearly all returns, understanding this concept isn't just insightful; it's critical for both VCs seeking exponential growth and founders aiming to transform ideas into world-changing enterprises.
